Agriculture is one of the programs which is being carried out by the organization to develop the rural areas in Mukono district.
Agriculture being the country's leading activity,it is estimated that, 90% of Uganda’s product come from agriculture in that case;
it is the back bone of the country. The study done by the organization in Mukono district in areas such as Nabbaale sub county, Kasawo sub county,
it was found out that, farmers carry out agriculture on a small scale and use poor methods of farming systems
.It was also discovered that most of the farmers in these areas dwell much on, growing bananas, cassava, and potatoes and rare local
birds, local cattle among others.
Basing on that,the organization established a nursery bed where it could
train the farmers improved agricultural systems and rise improved seedlings which would be later distributed to them.
Over 25000 coronal coffee seedlings, 5000Pine seedlings, 800 avocado seedlings and 6786 Mango
seedlings have been raised. 5000 Coronal coffee seedlings have been distributed to the farmers.
The organization has also established a mother garden for banana plantation were banana sackers are going to be got to establish demonstration gardens in people’s homes.
COVERED AREAS:
The areas covered by this program includes Ndese, Nakaswa, Kasawo, Maggwa, Kayini,
Kabimbiri,
Nakifuma, Kiyagi, Kalagi, among others .This areas includes S. D.A Churches, catholic
churches among others.
CHALLENGES:
- Lack of enough water sources
- Poor transport and communication system to reach the last farmer in the village
- Lack of enough funds to purchase agricultural materials (Tools) and seeds.
SOLUTIONS
- Construction of a 60,000 Water liter Tank
- Purchase of Agricultural material (Tools) and seeds
- Provision of Motor cycles to instructors and Bicycles
